Leadership: Day 1

How predictable of Jason... I bet he got a phone call from up on high telling him to push McKenna tonight.

Jason Cherniak and the style of blindly following leadership hopefuls is a symptom, and very symbolic of what is wrong in the liberal party today.

The liberal party needs to return to its policy core, and rediscover what we stand for. A strong Canada, where all provinces are treated equally. A core fault of the Martin Liberals was to make side deals (mostly about money) without considering the long term implications to other provinces.

The party needs a race that is not a coronation. Where the leadership (edit) doesn't feels free to arrogantly ignore policy passed on the convention floor, dismissing it with an off the cuff remark.

Yahoo from Calgary! I cannot wait for the Auditor General to get access to those Canada Post, Canadian Mint, HRDC, and the 9 billion dollar trust fund books that have been off limits for her.

It is my feeling, that there is a ton more scandals just waiting for us to learn about. yahoo!

Wow, from the land of Shitty Personal Attacks comes one aimed at Jason by someone who we don't know at all.

Unless I missed something I have no idea if this is being written by manley himself or if it is some sort of anon-y-blog.

Let's hope that Mr. Manley brings something better to the leadership race than this post.

"So here we have it. One Allan Woods, writing for the Calgary Herald is positively euphoric in his description of the ‘victory’ and offers up the sage council of Goldie Hyder to wit, “It's not so much that the West wants in so much as the West wants the concept of Canada to work," said Conservative strategist Goldie Hyder. "For it to work, all the parts need to be strong, not just the centre."
And to demonstrate our - the west’s – commitment to the concept, we send to the rest of Canada the greatest collection of unqualified zealots ever assembled in the free world during the last 400 years show. Several in this flock have never held a serious job and most of them have never been in a position of responsibility let alone authority. Pity the federal civil service; they’re gonna have to deal with a long, long period of, ‘because I’m a boss now, so there”. Send these uneducated light weights to the crocodile infested waters of Washington and this country can kiss our ass good bye. . Harper’s going to have to do what George did; hire outsiders to run the show.
If there’s another prayer meeting though, I’m absolutely gonna puke.

I like Manley, very much and think that he is more than capable of running the Liberals. I do however think that Manley is extremely 'Stale', and that his charisma is lacking almost to the point it is non existing.

Right now I am torn between Manley and Tobin for Liberal leader, although it seems like many have already pegged Frank McKenna as the sure fire bet.

With the defeat of the Liberals in the 2006 Canadian Federal Election to Stephen Harper's Conservatives, Prime Minister Paul Martin announced his intention to resign the leadership of the party. I believe Brian Tobin is the perfect pick for leader of the liberal party. He is very popular among Canadians and is passionate about the country. He is distanced from the liberal scandals. Which is something that the next leader of the liberal party needs to be. He has a history of being strong and straight forward. I believe if given the opportunity he can restore the Liberal Party Image. The 2006 election was not about the issues and what Canada hold dear it was simply a vote on the Sponsorship scandal. I truly believe that if the People of Canada ran on the issues alone there would be a liberal government.

Anon;

Haven't we learned anything from Harper beating Martin? Charisma is irrelevant. Manley is a bit dry, but at least he has sound policies, is extremelly ethical, and sticks to his convictions.

Besides, I think Manley is at least as charismatic as Chretien or Martin. He'll grow on people once they see more of him.
